A close friend invited me to float the Deschutes river with him on Aug 8, 2010. He had
booked a guide day with John and Amy Hazel with the guide being Travis Johnson.

We arrived in Maupin on the afternoon of the 7th and I got my fishing license squared
away then we made a visit to Deschutes Angler fly shop. This place is awesome. It is a
large, well appointed shop with anything a fly angler could want. I highly recommend a
visit to anyone in the aera. We had a little visit with John, Amy, and the dogs and
headed downstream to Beavertail campground.

At 4:30am the next morning we were loaded up and on our way. We had action on and
off all day and I managed to land one about 9#. I can say these Deschutes fish are
HOT.

Travis Johnson is an excellent guide. He is young, personable, knowledgable, energetic,
and funny. He didn't harass me about my bad casts and I made some. This guy knows
this river and where the fish are. I would highly recommend Travis and JHC guide
service to anyone thinking of a trip on the "D". They get my 5 spey fly rating.
Dean River Anglers’ Creed

I will:

respect the river, its fish and fellow anglers.
share the water and practice rotation angling.
park my vehicle out of sight and sound of other anglers.
keep my camp clean and bearproof.
leave only my footprints: my garbage goes out with me.
be careful with my campfire.
maintain a pit toilet and not foul the river.
give wading anglers a wide berth with my powerboat.
not discharge firearms unnecessarily.
respect and not harass wildlife.

These are a pretty good set of rules for any river!
