Current thoughts on today’s spey lines-
• Skagit Line:  This is the best of choice when pursuing sink tip endeavors.  At this point 3 different
versions are available-see Skagit/0logy. To be sure this line has proven to provide the ultimate in both
long and straight casts (cast after cast).  Whether your sink tip fishing is for steelhead, kings or sea run
browns, you will want one of these lines and once you’ve tried it, you’ll be hooked.

• Skagit Floating Tip:   Allows you to “piece-mealâ€ your Skagit Line together most often with a
5’ floating Cheater to create a full floating Skagit line.  See Skagit/ology page.

• Advanced Flight Spey (AFS):  this is Rio’s latest line for the spey caster.  Effortless casts of
prodigious distances along with tight loops and high-line speed are hallmarks of the AFS Line.  For the
very best in presentation and control attach one of Rio’s VersiSpey leaders on the front.  The AFS
comes in both a head and complete line (Outbound) version.  4 formats are available; Floating, 15’
intermediate tip, type 1 and type 4 full sink rates.
• WindCutter II Spey Line:  Available as interchangeable tip line or straight floating line. This is a spey
line with a short, easy loading 53ft head.  It is ideal for beginners and those learning to Spey cast.  It is
also perfect for experienced spey casters looking versatility across a wide range of demands/conditions.
As an interchangeable line the WindCutter can be combined with 15’ sink tips type 3, 6 and 8.  The
WindCutter Interchangeable Tip Spey Line comes with a floating tip and 15ft tapered sink tips starting
with a clear Aqualux (1.75 ips), type 3 (3ips), type 6 (6ips), type 8 (8ips).
• PowerSpey:  The PowerSpey is for those casters that prefer a longer belly line.  A unique taper
design makes the PowerSpey an incredibly easy line to cast…at any length.  Traditional anglers will love
the longer head length for precise line control along with efficient casting.  Head length varies between 57-
71 feet depending on size.  Available in both floating and VersiTip versions.  This is an improved
replacement version for the Rio MidSpey Line.
• Skagit Cheaters:  With the demand for shorter belly lines growing in popularity, here is a tool that
allows the spey enthusiast the ability to completely dial in their Skagit Line (longer) or WindCutter Line
(shorter). Essentially the Cheater theory allows the customization of a Skagit Line pursuant to the given
length of rod.  Generally, spey rods 11-13 feet will utilize no cheater or “nakedâ€.  Rods 13-15 feet
utilizing a 2.5 or 5 foot cheater.  With rods 15-16 feet using either a 5 foot, or the 7.5 foot cheater.
Packaged Skagit Cheaters come in 2.5’, 5’ and 7.5’ lengths (floating) and 5’
compensator format.  It’s important to note that while the 5 footers are default use size for rods 13â
€™-16’ the 2.5’ and 7.5’ will play an important role in a wide range of rods from 12’6â
€ to 16’.
• Skagit Floating Tip:   Allows you to “piece-mealâ€ your Skagit Line together most often with a
5’ floating Cheater to create a full floating Skagit line.  See Skagit/ology page.
• Sink Tip Compensator: . Available as a 5’ Skagit Cheater Style.  When you need to get deep
and dig, the combination of type 8, T-11, T-14 or the new T-17.  The compensator proves outstanding
• T-17:  The ultimate depth charge.  10 inches per second.  That spot where the big kings, steelhead
and sea run browns are hold up, the solution is here.  Can be cut into 9’, 11’ 13’ and 15â
€™ heads.  Consider a gym membership as well!
• T-14: is the next generation of super fast sinking tips that are easy to work with. T-14 can be cut into
9’, 11’ 13’, 15’, 18’ and 24’ heads.  Sinking at 9ips. T-14 heads from 9’-
15’ in conjunction with various Compensators offers maximum “swing dig in a sink tip format.
• T-11:  (11 grains per foot, 8ips) Sink rate and castability meet on the curve for both switch and spey
rods.  T-11 can be cut into 9, 11, 13 and 15 foot length.
• T-8 (8 grains per foot, 7ips)  T-8 provides the same type versatility with a level sinking format as T-
14, but a scaled down version that lends itself to 5-7 weight, 11’-13’9 rods
